While most Americans are probably already aware that the U.S. population is becoming less religious, but there is other data collected by the Pew Research Center in this Nov. 2015 report that I find fascinating. Those who are observant and attend services remains about the same – despite there being a larger percentage of non-affiliated believers in God.
I was struck by how high the ‘I believe’ percentage was as a total – whether that includes more agnostic thoughts up to the most devout. But, possibly what is most interesting are the social value shifts among those who take religion more seriously and are more devout.
The changes on same sex issues are really significant, yet those on abortion are moving only slightly. All in all it is very interesting and I am looking forward to the followup survey and results.
This is just of course touching the very surface of what they have reported.
